Hospital Indemnity Insurance
Supplemental policy that pays a lump-sum cash benefit when you are admitted to the hospital, regardless of your medical insurance.
About Hospital Indemnity Insurance
Hospital indemnity insurance is a voluntary supplemental product that pays a fixed cash benefit directly to you when you are admitted to a hospital, transferred to the ICU, or stay for a covered period of time. The benefit is paid in addition to whatever your medical plan pays.
The cash can be used for anything — copays, deductibles, lost wages, child care, transportation, household bills. Many people use a hospital indemnity plan to soften the out-of-pocket exposure of a high-deductible health plan or a Medicare Advantage plan.
Hospital indemnity is not major medical coverage and is not a substitute for ACA-compliant health insurance.
- Lump-sum benefit on hospital admission
- Daily benefit for covered hospital stays
- Additional benefit for ICU confinement
- Some plans pay for outpatient surgery, ambulance, or ER visits
- Benefits paid directly to you
- Routine medical, dental, or vision care
- Pre-existing conditions during the look-back period (varies by carrier)
- Custodial or long-term care
Most adults can purchase hospital indemnity coverage; some plans have age limits and most ask basic health questions.
Premiums vary by county, age, household size, and plan year. Talk to a Yumi Health advisor for a personalized quote.
