Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap)
Standardized private policies that help pay your share of costs in Original Medicare — copays, coinsurance, and deductibles.
About Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap)
Medigap is supplemental insurance you buy from a private carrier to fill the cost-sharing gaps in Original Medicare. Plans are standardized by the federal government and labeled with letters (Plan A, B, D, G, K, L, M, N, plus high-deductible Plan G). Every Plan G from every carrier covers the same things — the difference is the price and customer service.
Medigap only works alongside Original Medicare (Parts A and B). You cannot have both a Medigap policy and a Medicare Advantage plan at the same time. Medigap does not include drug coverage, so most Medigap members also enroll in a stand-alone Part D plan.
Your one guaranteed-issue Medigap window starts the first month you have Part B and you are 65 or older. During that 6-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period, carriers cannot deny you or charge you more for health reasons. New Jersey is a community-rated state for many Medigap policies — talk to a Yumi Health advisor for the rules that apply to your situation.
- Part A hospital coinsurance and an extra 365 days of inpatient care
- Part B coinsurance or copayment (most plans)

People enrolled in Original Medicare (Parts A and B); the best time to buy is during your 6-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period that begins when you are 65+ and enrolled in Part B.
Medigap premiums vary by plan letter, carrier, ZIP code, age, and tobacco use. New Jersey applies specific community rating rules for some Medigap products. Premiums vary by county, age, household size, and plan year. Talk to a Yumi Health advisor for a personalized quote.
